Monday 15th September

Got picked up by big green Fiji experience bus and met John and Kaseem our friendly guides. First stop at the beach for a BBQ. Had a go at boogie boarding but we were both hopeless at it, blamed it on inadequate waves. After beach went to Malomalo village and were shown the chief's hut where we were told that in the past enemies would have been buried under the posts of the building during its construction. Fijians are very proud of their warrior past and are happy to pass on stories of cannabalism.
Next stop sandboarding at Sigatoka dunes. Using same boogie boards to throw ourselves face-first down a 50 foot steep sand dune, digging our feet into the sand behind us to try and slow ourselves down. Trying not to swallow a face full of dirt at the bottom.
Stayed at Coral coast-Crow's nest. Staff put on a traditional Fijian dance called a Meke-the warrior dancing with clubs was very impressive and Mike looked a bit scared.

Tuesaday 16th September

Got dropped off coach onto 4x4 and climbed steep red dirt road into National Park/jungle.
Into scorching hot sun with very little shade we hiked along a path for about an hour before descending down some slippy clay steps deep into the undergrowth. At the bottom we waded knee deep through a river bed before eventually descending a sheer valley side to a wide, fast flowing river. On the banke we got into large rubber rings and drifted along with the current for a few miles until we were pulled to shore by our guides and got out at a waterfall where we swam in the pool beneath.

Went out for meal in the capital, Suva. After meal went to apparently only safe pub in the city which happened to be an Irish pub called o'Reilly's, bit boring really-should have checked out one of the dangerous ones! Back at hotel a few transexuals were drinking Kava in the lobby-apparently normal for Suva.
