Wednesday 3rd September

Crossed the Equator and the International Date Line; the day did not exist.

Thursday 4th September

Arrived at Fiji and embraced our swimwear, spending the morning by the pool.

Nadi town, in the afternoon was a bit grim, just a main street full of supermarkets and other shops. If you're a tourist you can get a bit of hassle from people trying to sell you stuff. Luckily at the end of the street there is the colourful Svarmi Hindu Temple in which to take refuge. Jane got 2 sarongs for 12$ about 4 pound after a quick haggle at an Indian shop.

Friday 5th September

The seaplane we took out to the islands was tiny but the lift off was incredibly smooth. We flew over a perfectly clear, calm aquamarine sea and then amazing reefs of multicolured coral. The flight took about half an hour and was spectacular, to land the pilot banked low over palm trees and the reef before landing gently next to the beach.

After a short water-taxi we were welcomed by Fijians onto Nacula, singing a traditional song and giving us flowers and a coconut.
We were ready to hit the beach but bizarrely ended up spending the afternoon listening to a visiting professor from the university of the South Pacific, Randy Feldman, giving a talk to the local people all about the local plants, fish and how to preserve it.
In the evening we danced with Fijians and drank Kava, the local ceremonial drink which makes your mouth tingle and also I later dioscovered irritates your bladder
