We were pressed for time when we arrived in Luang Prabang after an horrific b*s journey as Mary Clare's days with us was quickly running out. So we packed a lot into our two nights there. A visit to a nearby waterfall with a bear enclosure earned us a massage to recover. We hiked up a million steps to see the sunset from a temple overlooking the town then went in search of money as the towns atm were on the blink. Finally succeeding in getting some cash from a credit card purchase of b*s tickets, we headed to Lao Lao gardens for dinner with the Dutch family we had met on the gibbon experience. The do-it-yourself barbeque dinner was amazing - a bit of work but a lot of fun.
After dinner we were still thirsty but the ridiculous curfew in Laos meant that all bars close at 11:30 p.m, and after being as stubborn as only Irish people can be about leaving we had to abandon the bar. Luckily, there was an oasis in our time of need in the form of a bowling alley that for some reason bypassed late drinking laws. Bowling was not the ideal sport for Mike with his bad right hand (that turned out to be broken) from his kickboxing experience so several of the group played left-handed - the scoreboard unkindly reflected this. That kept us entertained until about three a.m when they also asked us to leave.
The tiny minivan we had to squash into the next day was not a pleasant hangover experience.
