We still couldn´t believe Mike won the bowls as we headed back to Antigua for the third time. One night here resting up and we got a few chicken b*ses the next morning to get us into El Salvador. Border towns are usually strange places but San Cristobal was particularly weird. All the immigration officer wanted was some Irish coins for her collection. We were somehow caught up in some kind of cross border smuggling operation when we got on the b*s to Santa Ana. Some local ladies tried to flog us some of the hot jeans they had stashed all over the b*s and despite a big police bust, they got plenty through to sell in the Crazy Santa Ana ¨hot stuff¨market.
Not much to be said about Santa Ana except that we searched the town looking for any kind of food other than fast food, and failed. We settled for a dripping sandwich from a stall in the central plaza and only stayed the night, worrying about our health if the rest of El Salvador`s cuisine was the same.
6 chicken b*ses and 2 days after leaving Antigua we arrived at our destination - the beach. Playa El Tunco is one of many surfing beach towns along El Salvador`s Pacific coast. The heat was almost unbearable and the waves were too wild for us so we just had two easy days of lazing about in the sun looking at the surfers.
