Where I stayed
Manzana de Verde
We got dropped off at the ruins after the ziplining and strolled around suitably impressed, inevitably comparing it to Tikal, Machu Picchu and Ciudad Perdida. The miserable damp conditions were enough to convince us to move on again so with only a couple of days of the sister act left, we decided to head back to sunny Antigua to relax.
Despite aspirations of including Belize, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador into the already hectic 3 week Guatemala holiday, the sisters would have to settle for a quick jump over the border to Copan in Honduras. Famous for itīs Mayan ruins, Copan is also a very nice town, similar to Antigua with clean cobbled streets. Unfortunately the weather was beginning to falter and heavy rain seemed to be following us since Rio Dulce, knocking out power and cutting off water supply. A bit of rain couldnīt slow us down though so we signed our lives away, strapped in to some harnesses and zipped over a forest through 15 lines at up to 80 Km/H, some of them over 1 Km long and 150 metres high. We could see the ruins in the distance and the wet conditions made braking more difficult so we really enjoyed ourselves. High fives all round.
