We took an overnight b*s from Panama to San Jose and stayed one night there watching some films. The next day we caught our flight to Guatemala and arrived at the airport as planned, three hours before the three supersisters. This was now three countries in three days with three diferent currencies. The three hour wait was almost unbearable as excitement reached fever pitch, but Eimear, Lorna and Noirin finally landed. After several minutes of high pitched screaming we made our way to Antigua, an old style touristy city just outside Guatemala city. We had a relaxing day to celebrate Eimears birthday with some market browsing and shopping, a big barbeque, some violent card games, lots of charades and plenty of holiday rum. Of course we had our new camera in action now too so we were pretty happy supertramps.
The following day we had an early start to climb the nearby volcano Pacaya which was incredible. There had been a small eruption eight days previously so there was plenty of hot lava near the top. It was a tough climb but the scenery was unbelievable and we got to toast some marshmallows over lava. Luckily none of us ignited despite our highly flammable conditions. We wound down with a fancy meal and a few beers back in Antigua which is supposed to be Guatemalas most expensive and touristy town but it was still fairly cheap so it was a great start to the sister act and the future was looking very bright in Guatemala.
