After the lost city trek we spent one last uneventful night in Taganga before heading to Cartagena. It was our intention to only spend a couple of days in Cartagena and then hop on a boat and sail to Panama. Unfortunately finding a boat to leave on time so that we could be in Guatemala on the 21st (to meet Eimear, Lorna and Noirin) was proving difficult. A lot of our time was spent down at the Marina trying to find a boat. In the end, because there is no b*s (or road) across the Darien gap to Panama, we had no option but to book a 230USD flight. We did manage to squeeze in some rum time in the hostel courtyard and celebrated a supertramp birthday with a fancy dinner.
Cartagena is a cool old fortified city with surrounding walls and a maze of cobbled streets to walk around. We blame the oppresive heat for us accomplishing little apart from a trip to the famous Boca Grande beach with its unnaturally warm water. Much to our great sadness, and yours (particulary Damien), our beloved overworked camera suffered a fatal lens seizure so we have no photos of Cartagena to share with you and won't have any until Guatemala when our identical replacement arrives with the sisters. Can't wait for that new camera to arrive.....
