In leaving Salento we became carried along with a big group of seven other travellers so we arrived in Medellin with a large entourage on a private bus. We didn't really do a whole lot in Medellin mostly hanging about, met up with some familiar faces from Platypus hostel in Bogota, cooked a monster bbq with the entourage and did some shopping. Medellin is a very modern city with a cool metro, funded by Pablo Escobar's drug money, and a crazy shop street. It felt very European and safe and weekends are supposed to be crazy. We got word from the Irish consulate in Bogota that our passports had arrived so we hightailed it outta there not waiting for the weekend or our Entourage, who were still trying to figure out where to spend Christmas. On the metro on the way out we got to see the Christmas lighting that Medellin is renowned for. Millions of multi coloured lights sprawled over the river and up a hill along the banks of the river -very impressive.
