On Saturday we caught a taxi to Zanzibar Airport, where Jenny (one of the girls on the tour) was not looking at all well.  We boarded the 11 seater plane, and not only was it really bumpy, the "45 minute flight" ended up taking 85 minutes to get to Arusha.

On arrival in Arusha, Jenny collapsed as she exited the plane and this was the start of a 48 hour nightmare stint in a local hospital for her.  She was dehydrated and had a tummy bug, but was given morphine twice even though the doctors never diagnosed her with anything!!

Meanwhile the rest of us rejoined the tour, and went to Meserani Snake Park to set up camp.  This particular camp runs a free medical centre for the local Masai villagers, and has a range of rather large poisoness snakes on hand in case anti-venom is required for bites.  They also have huge crocodiles, and the fence separating them from the campsite didn't exactly look secure... !!

Sunday we did a Masai village walk - these tribes are still nomadic, and can be seen in the region walking their cows and goats to graze on the fields.  The chief of the village we visited is 83, has 6 wives, and 50 children.  The youngest wife's 25, and although illegal, female mutilalition is still performed by the Masai villages.
