Long drive to Maun, which is the gateway to the Okavango Delta.
Next morning we were picked up at 7am in an open truck, and travelled for a chilly 90 minutes to the mokoro station on the Delta. On the way we passed the Buffalo Fence, which is 3,000 km long and 1.5 metres high - to separate wild animals who carry foot & mouth disease from the domesticated.
Once we were all loaded in the mokoro, we started our journey along the Eastern Delta. Thankfully our poler was very good, as the mokoro is the most unstable canoe I have ever been in. We made it without anyone falling in, pitched our tents, while the polers dug us a toilet.
Mid afternoon we went on a game walk
Early evening we did a sunset cruise, watched the sun go down over the delta while listening to hippos bath in the distance.
Next day we packed up camp, and returned to Maun. Late afternoon we took a scenic flight over the Delta in 5-person planes. It was impressive seeing the Delta from the sky, and to also see a lot more animals too.

1. Transport to the Delta
. One of our guides is an ex-poacher, so could spot the animals at any distance. We came across a male elephant, so went for a closer look. Even though we got within 40 metres, the elephant wasn't impressed, and started to make his move. We hid behind a tree and stood like statues until the elephant moved on.... terribly exciting!!Early evening we did a sunset cruise, watched the sun go down over the delta while listening to hippos bath in the distance.
