Arrived at Krabi airport in the evening on Boxing Day with Mum and M-L. We took a bus and found the hotel in Ao Nang soon enough. They then made a MASSIVE deal about the room which I thought was perfectly ok. One argument, embarrassing exchange at the front desk and several minutes later, we were in another room - which just about satisfied the crowd.
Spent the next few days sunbathing, swimming and generally indulging unashamedly.
We also took a day trip out, during which we went in a dragon boat, sea canoeing,
visited James Bond Island (of Man with the Golden Gun fame), visited the temple
of the lounging Buddha, fed the monkeys and had lunch in a floating village restaurant..
Mum and Marie-Louise, having stocked up on pointless presents, returned home
yesterday (4th Jan) and have got back ok.
I decided to spend the day planning the rest of my travels and roaming the town
(and beach) until exhaustion.. Being on my own for the first time in such a foreign climate, on the beach and in the sun was unforgettable! Had dinner (fried rice and corn on the cob) from a street vendor for the sum total or 1 pound (can't find the symbol on this bizarre thai keyboard) 20p... sweet!
Went out to a bar and met some crazy/awesome English folk who live out there. Having drunk a fair amount of Rum with them to celebrate the birth of one of their sons, I headed home and packed to leave Ao Nang in the morning. As I write now, I'm in Krabi Town (having taken a bus to get here) where I'll be for a few days before I meet up with everyone on Saturday.
For those of you that don't know.. I'm teaching English here for 10 weeks, while actually
taking the TEFL course at the beginning. Essentially, I get taught how to teach in the morning, put it into practice in the afternoon, and then have a review session in the evening to discuss the whole process.
Right, off to explore the night markets now before getting an early night's sleep. Peace. xx
