Okay, this is getting silly. No sooner had the bus pulled away from the terminal and I crash. I am out cold. Next thing I know, someone is shaking me awake. I open my eyes and it's a cop! There's only four of us on the bus and he's picking on me. Takes me a minute to figure out where I am and what's going on. I ask him if he wants my passport. He wants me to get off the bus. No one else, just me. I get up and he's got a freakin' dog! Outside there's another cop and they've got the luggage door open, waiting for me to pull out my pack, the two drivers and conductor standing, arms folded, watching. The dog starts sniffing at the thing, focusing on one spot in particular. I know everything is cool but the guy starts asking me if I smoke marijuana. 'No Seņor'. Then he asks if any of my friends smoke marijuana. 'No Seņor'. They poke around in my pack and then send me on my way. Sheesh. Did they read what I said about them at the border crossing? Maybe they concentrate on buses coming from the northern boarders.
I arrived in BA at 9:30 a.m. The bus terminal is massive but easily navigable. I find the Buquebus office and get my $30 ticket for the 11:30 a.m. boat over to Colonia del Sacramento. It's rainy but mild. Not the best day for sight seeing. I stay at the HI Hostel on the main drag. Colonia is just a slice of Europe at about a third the price. A little stop off before heading to Montevideo for a couple of days. Appears to be clearing up for the night. The forecast is positive. Good, because I'm heading to the beach for four days after Montevideo.
