So this is coming to you from the YHA North Melbourne :) Haha.. actually, I'm getting ready to catch a train and go visit a guy Shane I met in Bendigo. (No, not the same Shane u all are thinking of) :)

Well today I am officially 28 (according to the world clock). Yesterday was my birthday here (the 5th), but today is actually my birthday back in the states! Make sense? Woo hoo! I get two birthdays! So many of u are probably wondering what I spent my birthday doing.. Luckily, I did not spend it alone!! I've been hanging out around the hostel alot these last few days.. Went to Melbourne zoo 2 days ago and had a lovely time.  It's a bit different than zoos back home, if nothing else but the mere fact that you can get closer to the animals here.  There is one really cool 'outback' exhibit where you can walk through and see the kangaroos just sitting there (or lying lazily), but ironically there is nothing but wood logs keeping them from you. (You could literally walk up to them although u aren't suppose to).  They also have this AMAZING meerkat exhibit where there is just a glass wall between you and then (which they love to come up to hoping you'll toss some scraps over the side).  Finally- if any of you venture to this part of Oz, they have a wonderful tiger exhibit with a 'mum' and 3 baby tigers!!! Again, just a glass wall between u and the tigers (which the mom didnt seem to like!)
Well, I went into my zoo experience (cause I forgot to mention it earlier) and because while wandering through the wombat exhibit, I ran into an aussie bloke named Rick. (YES, another hot aussie!!) He was going to take me to a footy match (aussie rules is what the game is called) on Sunday, but sadly I will be gone :(

However, last night for my birthday (yes- I am finally getting to the birthday story), my american/melbournite friend Jason took me out to dinner. I had THE most delicious Kangaroo fillets!! It was amazing!! By far, my favorite red meat!!  Afterwards, in good ol aussie tradition we went to some pubs and hung out a bit.. Then, once Jason pooped out on me, Rick (the cute aussie from the zoo) came and picked me up.  We drove for what seemed forever till we ended up in some suburbian night club where his friend worked.  Interestingly, there was a sobriety checkpoint on the way.. which you drive up into this line, roll your window down, they stick out this thing you blow into, and of course if you are sober, you just drive off.  It's quite strange but nevertheless effective!!

We spent abit of time at the club and then headed back to the hostel.  Sadly, I will not be claiming Rick to be my new aussie boyfriend (he's in love with some chick in Switzerland) BUT I did get my first lovely 'aussie' kiss from him. Score one for Jenny! Hehe (Sorry mom and dad!!)  Naw, it was in good fun though :)  So by the time I hit the sack it was about 6am (eeeek!!) then I had to wake up at a stinking 8am to pack all my gear and check out by 10! Since then, I've just been hanging out around the hostel chattin it up with some random people.

Last bit of news to report.  I met this lovely girl from the UK named Donna. After chatting about it the last few days, we've decided to hire a car on Monday morning (when I get back from Bendigo) and take a road trip on the Great Ocean Road!!  It's a bit rushed (we will only have till Wed morn because she is flying out to New Zealand.. but if all goes well, we will be on the road Monday and Tuesday and just sleep in the car the two nights.. (Let's see how that goes!)
