Between Cleveland and New York I drove to Niagra, Boston and Cape Cod
. The Niagra Falls were lovely, but the town itself was a bit run down. However Cape Cod was gorgeous, fine sea food, pretty little houses and towns where you can ramble. However the motel I stayed in was a bit scruffy, stale but at least it was clean….ish, which you could not say about the motel pool. The pool was rank, dark and dirty. The only thing that stirred the pool water was the Mozzies breeding in it. So you ask how did Sean come across such a place, the internet, guides books, a recommendation. No all far too easy, Sean got a book of coupons in a Mc Donalds. Hey it was cheap, how bad could it be, I think I now know why it was half of the price off all other Cape Cod motels.
In stark contrast the B and B I stayed in (found through a guide book) was beautiful. The hosts were excellent, full of great tips and friendly chat. Boston was a lovely city to walk. One particular monument (for the holocaust) was 6 glass towers with the numbers of all detainees on the towers, with a short paragraph, of someone story on each tower. I also visited two of The National Park Services sites. One being Bunker Hill where the USA forces fought against the British for the first time. Bunker Hill also had a musket firing exhibition, with a chat and then complimentary pizza. The second site was a decommissioned Frigate warship where you could wander around. On the ship they had a meeting room which also doubled up as a war room and an operating theatre if needed. The only problem was the room was directly under the largest gun on the ship. So needless to say in battle with the gun firing the whole room would shake. Not the best circumstances to be operating under :-)
Anyway I shall wander off and see what other delights New York has to offer, thanks to everyone for all the emails and comments.
"Step right up and shoot a freak", now this is the New York I came to see! YEAH! Believe it or not this was Coney Island, New York. But the guy selling this show was not strictly lying with his banter as you could fire a paint balls at a teenager (who arguably has one of the worst jobs in New York) who was the Freak. The whole idea was people to have a living moving target that they could shoot at. Well what can I say about the Freak, except he has almost, almost got cat like reflexes :-). Coney Island has also got a beach where you can sunbath, swim and watch the garbage ships sale by off to the near by landfill. Apart from Freak shooting there were other attractions such as waltzers, bumper cars, bumper boats and a roller coaster. Because of my fear of heights, I decided to give the roller coaster a whirl, "hey it only 4 dollars, I have a good back" as I talked myself into it. I must admit it was pretty scary, until I started screaming which I found relaxing but strangely seemed to upset my other fellow passengers :-)
