I had quite the adventure today! We are in Livorno which is the closest port to both Pisa and Florence. Kristine and I decided to take the train to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. We made it there only after getting lost a few times :)

The local tourist agent at the Hospitality desk on board gave us a map to the train station and said that it was about a 20 minute walk or we could take a bus. We decided to walk....we got to the location she circled for us on the map only to discover that there was no train station there. We walked around in circles for a bit and finally asked for directions. That was interesting in itself, what with our minimal knowledge of Italian, and theres of English, but eventually we figured out that we were still about 3kms away from the train station. So we hopped on a bus. Apparently you are supposed to buy the bus tickets in advance, but we had no idea so the driver let us on for free. We got to the train station and had to wait about 1/2 hour for the next train. A round trip to Pisa only cost 6 Euros. The train ride was about 20 minutes. When we got to Pisa, we were told that the buses there were on strike (as you can tell we didn't research this much...and it's sunday which means that next to everything in Italy is closed). But the good news is that it was only a 15 minute walk to the Tower.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is very cool. It was a complete tourist area though...the rest of the town was dead except for this area. We tried taking pictures of us holding the tower up but I don't think they turned out to well. We would have gone up the tower but we only had about 20 minutes there before we had to start heading back to the ship. We did make it back though without getting lost!

Tonight is crew bingo again...think I can win twice in a row? I'm also going to dye Sarita's hair tonight...yikes, this could be interesting!

I haven't been able to upload pictures lately because the Systems Manager had to fix something on my computer the other day and he must have done something to the settings because I can't access my camera I'm going to have to borrow someone else's computer for a bit to get to my pics.

Talk to you soon!

Okay.. Did I NEVER Tell You The Horrors Of Pisa???
Oh my gosh Shan.. when me and Sam were in Pisa it was insane.. it is a very small town that just happens to have a tower that leans. It is a beautiful tower, and te chursch and baptistry are also grand and breath taking (from above.. looking down from inside the tower.. you will see that the church is actually shaped like a cross. The call the area 'The Square of Miracles' although I dont know of any miracles that have occured there.. I guess that the tower hasn't falen and crused the church :s That's a pretty good miracle :p
Okay so... VERY touristy there.. they used to have ropes holdingthe tower so that it would stop it from leaning any further.. but then they thought it looked ugly for the tourist photos (rolling my eyes) so they get rid of them..(who cares if in 5-10 years the tower falls and ruins the church.. atleast it looks pretty now)
Anyhow, Sam and I didn't get to go up the tower the ONE day we sent in Pisa (one day by choice) they only let 30 people up the tower, every hour. So ofcourse our lack of planning bit us in the ass :s

The place that we stayed in the one night we did stay in Pisa, was litterally a Barn, a red barn!!! okay so there was no Hay.. but the floors werered brick and there was dirt and dust EVERYWHERE and the attendant didn't speak ANY english (I mean when you run a hostel (I mean barn your calling a hostel) at least know a little bit) he also left the 'hostel'at 8pm, so we couldn't ask him any questions and the only door out had an alarm sign above it so we were stuck inside for the whole night.. then these 3 brazillian kids show up.. open the 'alarm' door and NO ALARM GOES OFF!! oh and there was also a sign on the toilet stating 'no line bandages in the toilet' OHHHH KAY strange!
Oh I wish I could upload pic.s so you could see the insanity.. I'm not exagerating at all!!
P.S. to take the truely perfect Pisa leaning tower photo you have to stand on the little posts all along the pathway (the ones that block you from walking on the grass).. you know the ones.
Okay Shan I hope everything is going well for you and we'll see you very soon
