I've separated the entries of our blog so you can see a more exact map of where we were!

So obviously we haven't updated our little travel journal at all since we've been on our trip. It's not because we don't like you, I promise, but because silly Sunny forgot the charger to her computer and then listened to music the whole way up to San Fran and mr. Computer died. So we were out of a computer very early on in the trip. Luckily I have a fantastic mom who sent me the charger in Minnesota.

So now that you're up to date on what happened to the updates, let me tell you a little about the trip thus far:
Our first stop was San Fran where we stayed in a hotel. Now when I say hotel, I don't want you to think like Hyatt Hotel or Embassy Suites. C'mon, we're not rich er anything. We stayed in downtown San Francisco where it is GHETTO! And I don't mean like joy st. ghetto (for those in lake elsinore you know that joy st. is ghetto for the area it's in) I mean it was straight up Compton ghetto! We decided to walk down the street and we were the ONLY white people and the ONLY ones not doing drugs. At one point some girl was talking about how she "ain't gonna be smokin wit him again!" and then looked at us and said "and look at these ones! They look like COPS!" I couldn't help but kinda laugh nervously and keep walking. There was sirens, we saw undercover cops interrogating some guy up against a fence... Needless to say we took a different route back to the hotel and jumped in the car. We did get to see Pier 39 and a bit of the street vendors so it wasn't all scary. It was actually quite fun!

After leaving San Fran we headed on our longest car ride of the trip to Newberg, Or. It took about 11 hours to reach it but the drive was BEAUTIFUL!!! Traffic went well until we hit a dead stop due to an accident. There was probably about 2 cop cars, 3 ambulances and a fire truck that drove past us but when we got to the sight it was just a little fender bender... 6 emergency vehicles for a little accident? All Ben could say was “God Bless America”... actually it’s kinda been his signature saying on the road trip. Being from Switzerland and all, he can’t help but laugh at some of American’s ridiculous antics. Although occasionally he says it as more of a “no God.... really Bless America” i.e. our great prices on everything compared to Switzerland.

Anyway, during our 11 hour drive we started seeing snow. It was the closest to snow I’d been for like 4 years!!! I was SO PUMPED! By the time we got to our destination though, there wasn’t any snow on the ground. We had a great time though with amazing friends we had met in NZ, Sam and Katie! We got to stay up and chat til the wee hours of the night.

Check out the next entry for more on where we were and what we did! WOO
