Woke @ 6 am! tried to back to sleep, then blogged, showered dressed & phoned rob (kathy had gone to breakfast w a friend). Kirsten arrived soon after caught up w pip & steve, went to shops & happy hen farm.

After lunch the decision was made to go to Calke Abbey. This was owned by a reclusive hoarder & finally given to national trust when they got hit w massive death duties. They decided to leave it very much as they fond it as a sort of monument to the decline & fall of a great British house. Some of the rooms are still fabulous & others are decaying with torn wallpaper & damp stains. All of them chock full of stuff - cases & cases of stuffed animals & birds, animal heads mounted on walls, shell collections, book collections... We got to go thru the servants quarters & kitchens & cellars. Rob & Jerry had never seen it even tho it is only about 15 miles away - we all found it fascinating. We arrived at 3 pm and asked how long it took to look thru - (we bought a ticket for house and garden) the woman said and hour - we took a good 2 and left just as it was closing - didn't get to see the garden at all.

Out to a Nepalese restaurant for a lovely meal with Rob, Jerry & Kirsten. Pip & Steve had planned a night in with some treats from Sainsburys. Quite tired after the previous moderately late night so headed off to Cathy's place. Tried to blog last night and fell asleep.
