Today was the last morning in Italy. We went to breakfast and saw some
people who were just starting their tour, so it made us a bit sad. We
went for breakfast and they kept asking us if we were with Contiki,
since their breakfast was somewhere else. We kept telling them ove and
over we weren't.
We had ordered a shuttle for hte airport the day before. I swear, he
was total mafia. He's wearing this fancy suit with sunglasses. He drove
us to the airport in his leather interior BMW. Mafia is alive and well,
just gotta go with it. They told us it would take 40 mins to an hour to
get to the airport. He got us there in 20 mins flat. At one point, I
guess he passed a mafia brother and honked at him and they did this
wave thing at each other.
We made it to the airport in one piece and tried to figure where we had
to go. Problem is, its not very well marked. We found the check in
finally, but they had 3 different lines, each one for a different
airport. You have to line up behind the airport you need. Finally
checked in, I weighed in at 20.1 kg, we went to the gate. Nothing
exciting, just generally tired. To board the plane, we had to take this
bus to the plae. I think we may have been late leaving, but I instantly
fell asleep, so I'm not too sure. The flight wasnt bad, they actually
gave us sandwiches and drinks, which I wasn't expecting on a short,
discount flight.
We landed in Berlin, got our bags, and tried to figure out a way to the
hotel. We knew we could take the S-Bahn, so we went to information to
ask where we should go. Turns out, we had to take a bus first.
I forgot something! When we landed, we had to take another bus to the
terminal, which was about 2 feet away. As soon as the bus moved, it
stopped. I think the back of the bus ended up where the front started
from.
Back to getting to the hotel. We found the bus easily enough and where
we had to get off, thanks to the ingenious of labeling hte stops,
unlike other places (Rome). We also had no problems finding the train
or our stop. But we get out and had no idea where to go. We asked this
woman who gave us directions in German, but being the experienced
travelers we now are, we kind of understood her. Only problem was we
couldnt figure out a way across the street. But we did find stairs. SSo
up we went with our suitcases like a couple of crazy girls. We finally
found our hotel and checked in.
After a lunch of Burger King and some time on the internet, we went
back to the hotel for a bit. At 6:30, we went to dinner to meet the
group. The group seems a bit...strange. The tour manager seems nice
enough. She typed out a very long, very extensive day sheet. She also
gave us the whole list of rules.
After dinner, most people went to a bar. Me and Dana walked around the
block and realized there's nothing around, so back to the hotel it was.
