Awoke at 5:00 to ...sunshine!  Most of the past week has been cloudy.  A sunny morning was a treat.  On the road by 6:20.  I had assumed that since it was Canada Day that there would be no road construction in the Yukon.  I was just a little bit wrong, but only two encounters with machines actually in use instead of the six places in the Yukon that had machines along the road ready to go.  By the way, I believe that road surface conditions in Alaska are worse than in Canada.

It turned warm today, for the first time since I was in South Dakota over a week ago. Warm enough for just a T-shirt (rather than multiple layers). But not warm enough to have to run the A/C in the van.

There is a nice rest area at the actual Yukon/Alaska border.  I stopped there just as a bus of German and Austrian tourists were having their pictures taken in front of the Alaska sign.  Their cameras were lined up on the boundary bench, and the bus driver snapped a picture with EACH camera.  Fun!  I had a brief chance to speak with a few of them; they were having a marvelous time.  (The boundary bench is half in each country.  I actually sat in both countries for a second.)

Gas prices are "down" to about $3.35 per gallon now that I'm in Alaska.  Still better than prices in Canada!!!  The road surfaces in this part of Alaska are the worst of any part of the trip so far.  Pavement breaks and frost heaves are caused by the severe winters.  Slow down!

The sky became hazy as the day progressed.  Not so good for scenery pictures.

The campground where I am tonight is along a creek.  Tolsona Wilderness Campground is about 20 minutes west of Glennallen, in the middle of nowhere.  It's very pretty here, and the mosquitoes are most welcoming.  I'll try to upload a picture from across the creek.  Right this minute I'm doing laundry and charging my camera batteries.  And writing this entry, of course,
