Where I stayed
"Farmers Market" where there were a few stall manned by 'Islanders', namely these self sufficient types who pedal their home baking, tie-dyed clothes, jams, preserves and fruit juice. Enough variety to help us part with some money. Then inside the hall were donated items (garage sale stuff) where you could wander and choose anything that took your fancy and just walk away as the items were free. Helped me chose a book to read in Alaska! In a nearby shed was the recycling, need I say more - except it was very orderly and organised, if I hung around I only seemed to be in the way! In the afternoon we walked the beach, saw another otter ( not common) and later margaret and I had a swim. My first one in the Salish Sea.
Since being back in Victoria we have walked the Galloping Goose trail into the beautiful city of Victoria. Trekked 10+km around Elk Lake and finally done a little shopping!! In the city we called into Chinatown where we went down Fan Tan Alley, notorious in the goldrush days for trading, among other things I guess, opium. Downtown Victoria was still alive with visitors, music and First Nations people selling their wares. It is an extremely pretty city, summer flowers enhancing the backdrop of Parliament Buildings and the harbour.
I have contacted maureen and will stay with her for a few days from Friday
