Hire car written-off (we never liked it!)

We had an eventful day. After a really nice day out in the local National Park (and our first Roo sightings!) we were waiting to turn right back into the drive of where we are staying when a car ploughed into the back of us. WE ARE PERFECTLY ALRIGHT so please do not worry. We were both rather shaken up and the car is a write-off but we were not hurt and nor was the kid that ran into us. The police came, took all the details, he admitted total liability (difficult to do anything but - he said he wasn't looking!) and thankfully a couple coming the other way saw the whole thing and gave a statement to the police. The locals and the police were superb, very caring. It turned out that the young lad was a local and his mum and dad were on the scene in moments (his mum came over and apologised!). The final twist was that we were supposed to not be drinking this week but after that we walked into town for a beer, and a bite to eat. Who should end up serving us - the Muppet that smashed our car up! These are small towns.
This morning (6th) we have had to delay our plans to drive to Canberra until our car is picked up and a new one dropped off today. It should hopefully be straightforward and his insurance should pick up the bill but I have a deep mistrust of car rental companies and Insurance companies and so the two combined makes me nervous! We will keep you posted.
