We raced back to BA on the train to get the Friday night (bank holiday weekend - good timing!) ferry over to Colonia in Uruguay (another south american country ticked off!).

Colonia is a picturesque UNESCO listed coastal town with loads of restaurants, little shops, a harbour and a long beach (well we say coastal but its actually on the banks of the Rio de la Plata but its so wide - over 200K in parts - that it feels like the sea). It faces west and we had been told it had some stunning sunsets across the river - we were not disappointed!!!

Most people do a day visit from BA and as such Colonia old town is best first thing in the morning (before loads of tourists arrive) and last thing at night (after they've gone). We stayed 2 nights (which practically makes us residents, you know!)
