Arrived in San Francisco and immediately fell in love with it all. The atmosphere of the city is fantastic - relaxed but exciting. We got the train direct from the airport to Powell St, then walked up the street to our hotel. We had a couple of days here so spent the first day wandering the streets, in the shops and getting used the US way of life. The next day we caught the famous San Francisco cable cars to Fisherman's wharf, which we also loved. We got the ferry across to Alcatraz. The views back onto the city from the ferry were amazing, as the whole harbour is. Alcatraz was great - again amazing views all round. The rest of the day we wandered Fisherman's Wharf and had a relaxing, stress free day. Loved those seals on the wharf!!! Coming from the southern hemisphere, we were surprised at how early it got dark - about 4.00pm.
The next day we went to Macy's and some other "famous" shops. We caught the bus to the Golden Gate bridge and walked halfway across it in the rain and clouds. We found a great place for dinner on the wharf and took the cable car back to our hotel.
San Francisco is a beautiful city. Easy to get around, great atmosphere and feel about it, and friendly people. We would have loved to spend more time here but had to move on. But we will definitely be back. Next stop - Vancouver More thumbnails ...
