Getting to Jaigon was time consuming but easy. We left at 9.30 in the morning, Polin was ment to be meeting her friend to share a jeep down but he didnt show up. Eventually we left at 10.30 and it took a long 2.5 hours to get down from Darjeeling to Silliguri in the back seats of a shared jeep. Polina felt ill all the way back and i didnt exactly feel great.
From Silliguri we ate a quick thali and then got on the 2pm bus to Jaigon which takes 3.5 hours. We arived at 6pm in the terenchal rain and ate and got an early night - there was nothing else to do!!
We awoke early to make the most of our one day in Bhutan. The Lonely Planet reliably informed uys we could have 1 day in Bhutan without a visa or without paying the usual $200 a day.
Once again the lonely planet let us down
We got to the boarder and they had no idea what we were talking about!
After talking to the nice Bhutanese man and coming back 3 or 4 times he alowed us to go across for 1 hour! We were thrilled - illegaly crossing a boarder!! He told us if we saw anyone that we should say we got a taxi accross the boarder and to play very stupid otherwise we could get in trouble.
We ran around for our hour trying to find a pegoda, im not sure if we ever found the right one but we saw a nice one. The main differences from India was the language barrier, people rteally cant understand much - not even if you say Gompa to them (an international word!!). We bought 2 t shirts (which we are wearing now) and i got a Bhutan currency note to add to my collection.
We arived back to India after 55 mins and all was good :-)
We then decided to get the bus back to Silliguri as Jaigon was not too nice.
