27/8/06

Hurrah! back in India!! (not really)

It was an effort getting here though. We got a bus from Janakpur to Kakaribitta which left at 8am and got there at 3pm, we changed some money on the boarder and then tried to get a jeep to Darjeeling, that was delt a blow when they wanted 1,600 rupies for the 3 and a half hour journey!!In the end we got on a jeep to Siguri for 50 rupies and thenanother jeep for 2.5 hours for 82 rupies so 132 rupies each rather than 800!! We got a bit of stress with one of the heeps about the amount but it was just the usual shit which i wasnt taking so it all worked out alright.

We arived in Darjeeling at 9ish and walked up a very steel hill in the pitch black to a guesthouse buffalow zoo

. It is a little pricy but very, very nice so now we are staying in the Bellevue hotel. Darjeeling is not quite as nice as i expected so we have 3 days here rather than 4 and we have just booked uyp all of our train tickets for the next couple of weeks -its a weight off my mind. Over 40 hours of train travel for $40 - not bad!

I Booked Darjeeling to Siguri

Silguri to Calcutta

Calcutta to Chennai

and Chennai to Delhi (for Polina to go home)

We wil be doiung some nice things over the next couple of days but for now (today) i am going to chill and watch the Chelsea Blackburn game - cant wait!

Darjeeling has had miserable weather while we have been here, it has also had a strike so out of our 4 days we have only had things open 2 of them Darjeeling Herbal Garden1

!

Day 2 in Darjeeling we couldnt do much as there was a strike but we made the most of the day. We went to a botanical garden wich was ok, Observatory hill which was a temple on a hill with milions of prayer flags and even more monkies and then finally saw a gompa before heading back again.

Day 3 was our busy day. We went to the Cinema to see Pirates of the Carabian which was pretty good and then went to the zoo in the afternoon which was a really good zoo with Tigers, Leapords, Monkeys, Red Pandas, Wolves, Deer, Yak and a whole host of other things in supprisingly good condition!

Day4 (today) we were ment to be on a train no but it is so foggy so a scenic train is not the best plan, we have decided to have 1 more day here and then head off to the Bhutan boarder tomorrow - im really looking forward to it!

30/8/06

Polina bumped into her friend from Kiev today so she has been with him for the past 4 hours - i have just been lazy and watching yet more films! Tomorrow we will definatly be leaving here - at last!!
