As expected Hue has not lived up to expectations.
We got on our bus at 7.30 but the other 2 were told to get off as there was some problem with their tickets! I had to stay on and we left! 5 mins later Jesus and Mark got on the bus, it seems as if there was some sort of problem but it was ironed out. I dont think i have told you much about Mark or Jesus. Mark is from London and about 28. He has a strong sence of what is right and wrong so it is very easy to antagonise him. I try not to but it is hard! He is similar in his interests to me so we get on pretty well.
Jesus is the most kind natured guy you could meet. He is from Israel and 35. He is also about 6foot 4 so massive in comparison to Mark. As well as these two there is Iris and Ange. Ange is 31 and a friend of Marks from back home although she is original from New Zeland and Iris is 39 from Germany. They are both really nice people but we seem to be traveiing slightly independantly from them at the moment. I think it is just because Mark is so fed up with waiting for them to do anything! Anyway - back to Hue! It is a very old town and has city walls around it. We arived at 1.30 after plenty of unecessary stops and were typically dumped at a hotel. we had a look and it was ok - $15 for the three of us but it wasnt perfect so we kept looking. As soon as we started to move they knock the price down (as they always do) to $10. We still looked around 4 other places but came back to the place as it is a pretty good deal. The rest of the day was spent looking around the town and getting hasstled by people trying to sell us usless crap - it is the norm but a real problem here. We had lunch at the market which was such a bizar combination of stuff - i had a drink with egg, meat and sultanas in it! As well as this some jelly with shrimps in it, spring rolls, soup and some meat skewers! None were particuaraly nice or cheap so i wont be going there again!
When we arived in Hue i lost my drum again - i left it at one of the many guest houses we went to. I had mixed feelings about not having it again but sure enough - i went back tothe original guest house and it was there waiting for me. Me and the drum it seems are conected and will always be together! In the evening we went to a nice cheap place and i had a set 3 course meal for $1 and we also aranged out moto hire for the following day as we are going to see the tombs. Jesus cant drive so Mark drives him around and i drive myself. After food Jesus and i went out for some drinks and started chatting to some girls who were also from Israil. It was hard for them to converse in English so it was a evening of fits and starts conversation wise but a nice evening all the same.
Today we went on our bike trip to see a couple of pegodas and the tombs in the surrounding area. It was a nice day on the buikes again and i also drove around the town again - im really enjoying driving at the moment. We also booked up our ticket to Hanoi tomorrow at 6 so we have untill then to kill tomorrow. We are thinking of going to the Hot water springs or the Demiliterized zone - not sure yet. TONIGHT tonight we are going back to the same bar for some Vietnamese rum - Mmmmm! 6/4/06 We went and had more rum and then the whole of the next day was spent on bikes. We drove 50km to some springs for a few hours. They were beautiful and we had a really good time. Benni even took a picture of me with a Vietnamese guy on the back of my bike - he just wanted a lift to his farm - its a eally cool picture. We had to speed back as we were running late. I arived back 1st and got soe sandwiches made up for the long journey and the others were shortly after. When we got back to the GH we had to run to catch the bus, its the 1st time ive had to do that! At least we didnt have to wait for it. Just 13 hours to go and then we will be in Hanoi!
