From Ben Na Hin we had to endure another eventful full day of travel, this included going over many bridges on a Sawngathaew which was fine until one broke whilst we were going over it. We were lodged on the bridge in the middle of nowhere and we had to all get out and push and pull and lever the truck up with a piece of wood. After about 45 mins we got the thing moving again and we were away. In Greg's e mail he sent his mates he said
'we came across a broken bridge which we could not get across, so we gathered up a few of the locals and got them to lay down on the bridge to form a layer so the truck could pass, other than the occasional crack of bone and scream we safely made it over and disappeared into the sunset, hurrah!' Very funny!!!
but it was worth it when we arrived. It was the most primitive place i have stayed but Lyd and i stayed with one family and my 1st job was to carry the water back from the river. I looked and thought it would be no problem but it was just so ridiculously heavy the woman had to take over as i was holding her up too much! The following day we went to the cave, i shared a boat with Alex and we went through this amazing cave on a long tail boat, we kept having to get out and push at points as it was so shallow but the whole place was phenomenal. We even got chance to leave the boat and play the drums on some of the stalagmites although Daz managed t break one, oops! It prob only took a few centuries to form! Once we got to the other side we came back pretty promptly as there was nothing to do but Alex and my boat broke down and we had to paddle back to the village to get it repaired.
My knee also opened up again after the motorbike accident as it turns out all the water does is harm my wounds i will just have to try and keep them dry but that is very difficult in this part of the world! Other than this we did very little apart play with some of the kids, take a lot of photos and build a fire by the water. We would like to go today but will have to wait till tomorrow but it is ok as i have been going to bed at 7pm the past two nights as i am so exhausted. (the locals go to bed about 7.30 and get up at 5 in the morning so i figure going to bed early gets me the most rest possible).
So tomorrow we will be heading south for my B'day but i don't know where we will be. Maybe Savannakhet? Who knows! P.S This has nothing to do with this entry but i am in an internet cafe in Thailand at the moment and watching monks playing really brutal computer games against each other. I am planing to play red alert with one of them soon, that should be an experience! More thumbnails ...
