Vientiane, the capital of Laos is 5 hours from Vang Vien in a 'VIP' bus, it was not very VIP but it moved and we eventually got there. The three of us just dumped our stuff in the 1st place we came to and went out for a meal at some quite expensive hawker stalls and then went for a drink and a couple of games of pool which we all lost against the in house expert. Daz went to bed early and Elin and i left not to much later.
1st thing the next day we found a slightly cheaper guesthouse but i was having difficulty walking still from my biking accident so this was an effort. In the end we found somewhere cheaper but the fans were so powerful it was like trying to sleep underneath a Chinook! Today was to be our walking tour day, we had the Laos lonely planet and it had a map in it with walking instructions to all the major places in Vientiane. I naturally took control of the navigation but after a very short while Elin took over as i was doing a pretty poor job!!!! So we wondered / hobbled around all day taking in the sights and that was enough for me, i could have left but did not want to go on without the others and have a birthday by myself so i waited and waited and we didn't actually leave till the 5th, 3 days after when i wanted! The one really good thing, however, was the trip to Buddha park which is a large selection of statues and a 'hell mouth'. It was a really enjoyable day trip (see pics).
Elin left on the 4th which was pretty sad as it reduced our little group of merry travelers but it was quite a good time for her to leave as she needed to get out as she only had a 14 day visa. The moment the goodbye finished and Daz and i were wondering if we should move into a smaller room Dutch man Alex wondered down the street and so he replaced Elin, the bed was unoccupied for no more than 10 mins! Greg, Rane, Daz and Alex needed to sort out there Cambodia visas so this is what delayed everything, but in this time i chilled out with Alex and Daz and we just had a nice time eating, drinking watching amazing sunsets etc. I ate at a restaurant called PVO at least 1 time everyday and they had amazing Vietnamese baguettes. When the time actually came to leave i was so happy - it is definitely time to move on, however, Rane is going to join us a day later as Yosaphine is leaving tomorrow to go back to Bangkok and so he wants to say good bye properly, he will catch us up in Ben Na Hin (the village near a 7km long cave V exciting!)
