On the 11th i arrived in Bangkok at 5.30 in the morning. I was still feeling the affects of the sleeping tablet i took to knock me out for the 12 hour journey. It was boiling hot, loud and dark - not the nicest conditions to enter the biggest city in SE Asia!
I got into the 1st Tuk Tuk drivers cab and paid over the odds to get to the guesthouse. As i had no idea where i was going i just got him to take me to some cheap accom in Koh San Road (the travelers part of town). We sped off through the busy streets of Bangkok shooting between lanes on this cart with a motorbike at the front and a seating area at the back - they look really weird! The driver was shouting out all the football scores from the night which was nice and eventually we arrived at the guesthouse. I managed to get the last room available and slept.
I woke up about 3pm and then went out to try and find some new friends - it may sound silly but apart from Lyd i really didn't know anyone in northern Thailand! I did a bit of shopping and then had a meal where i met Emma. The coincidences were absolutely amazing. We were born on the same day and the same year as each other. We both also started traveling on the same day and she was from Worcester! After the meal we went out for some drinks and befriended some other people who were all from the north of England so i was actually in Bangkok with 8 or 9 other English people - it was very strange. We had a really good night apart from the occasional fight stirring up between the Thais having their own little street wars over small issues. We saw a proper fight break out towards the end of the night and watched 2 families of Thai's kick the sh*t out of each other. Looking back it was quite amusing because of the amount of alcohol we had all consumed but now i think we were prob a little to close and it was only the alcohol stopping us from being a bit weary!!
I got back to my room at 7am and slept for the rest of the day. In the evening i once again went out with Emma but this was much more low key and it was quite a quiet but good night. Emma was leaving the next day as there had been a sudden death back home so she was returning for the funeral. The other guys i met were also leaving to go down south so i decided to go and try and meet up with Lyd in Pai. The only problem is this involves a thirteen hour bus journey followed by a further four. Im getting seriously bored of these busses already!!
