For once the lonely planet was useful. It talkes about the delights of the small roads up the country from the Tanah lot area up towards Munduk. We were going to take the 'highway' but the small roads were amazing. the sun was shining, the fields were so green, everyone was waving at us and I was just using the sun for navigation. It was perfect. After an hour or 2 of this we were stopped and asked to pay to procede - we didnt know what for but we paid the small fee which gave us chance to drive up for some amazing views of the rice terraces - seems as if it is a big tourist magnet as there were quite a few up there with busses and we had just stumbeled across it - brilliant! And it was!!

We followed the map a bit more from here as the sun wasnt doing the trick anymoe. We drove past some amazingly colourful temples and more lovely roads before we joined the highway. This took us up over the volcano pass and was cold, a little bit wet and miserable. BUT only for 30 mins. Then we decended and had a stop next to  a huge lake which is a crater of a volcano. We sopped here for an hour but the weather wasnt up to much so we got going soon enough. Then we had another long drive to Munduk. Tis took us past 100's of monkeys on the side of the road, and then down down down, coasting through lovely fields and rice terraces and through the clouds down to Munduk for a lovely sunset in some wonderful accomodation we managed to find. The place was very up market but SO worh it - It was only a fraction more than what I would usually pay myself and it was idilic. We had an hour long massage each (not so good, it was a VERY old lady who's skin felt like a deflated baloon, she really had no sterength and I dont think she had ever been a proffesional masseur - It wasnt horrible but it wasnt really nice - I just found the whole process quite amusing like 'whats she going to do next!?')

Then we got an early night as there was nothing else to do (a theme of our evenings).

After a lovely continental breakfast we tore ourselvwes away from lovely Munduk, and got back on the bike for the drive to Lovina.
