We left Flinders on a crazy dirt road where I drove Vicky on 2 wheels a points and through rocky creeks, water hazards and anything you can imagine - it was very cool! This went on for 2 hours with Fabrice moaning in the passengers seat about this or that but he his just jealous his is my strech to drive :-)

We hit the main road and I drove us to a rest stop up there to get some fuel - at a wholling $1.05 - twice what I paid in melbourne! Still, there is no choice really! the weather is SO HOT and it is proper outback now, the road is sealed for now which is a good help but not for long - its Fabrice up to drive now and its going to be a bumpy one!

Bumpy indeed! The road suddernly becomes unsealed and we bounce around up to Lake Eyre but to be fair if it is like this all the way to Coober Pedy we will be happy, there are tracks to follow and it isnt too bad, we can manage about 80km an hour over it so its pretty good. We arived at the lake in nice sunset and were instantly bothered by the flys. 1,000,000's of them! nasty, african types that fly into your eyes and mouth - and they are seriously persistant! I bought a had on the way up here from the garrage which makes me look like a cowboy! I attached my sarong to it and the flys kept away - genious, well, untill you see the pic!

We spoke to a young Aussie couple who couldnt believe we are attemting what we are in a battered up van when everyone else has 4x4 but its all been good so far and we are sure he is just overly worried - we have about 40L of water and 2 tanks full of fuel (LPG and Unleaded) and so we are seriously prepared for the worse case scenarios.

We slept at the lookout under the stars and although it was a dusty nastly looking hot place in the day (where the frizbee playing was awsome), at night it bacame the most peaceful place with not a sound for miles,..... and miles - you can hear a car coming 10 minutes before you see it.

I managed to get some quiet time, some meditation and a lot of reading - it was a wonderfully peaceful evening in the middle of knowhere - I loved it!

Now, today we plan to head to Coober Pedy - providing the roads are ok and Vicky can make it!
