We arived in Wanaka pretty late. We parcked outside a hostel for a quick cheeky shower and then Lees Friend turned up and Lee is going to stay here for a while. We will pick him up on the way back up.
The YHA in Wanaka was nice and we really took advantage of the facilities. A shower, a hot meal, a LONG game of risk with a Deutch girl staying in the hostel - all for free! Then we hopped back in our van for some sleep - it is working really well not paying for too much at the moment!
In the morning it was a miserable day and with Lee gone we didnt really know what to do with ourselves. We decided because the weather is shitty to go down to Queenstown and probably all the way to Milford sounds. Maybe the weather will be better down ther.
And then we saw the golf course!!!!! Ive never played before but we just turned up, hired some clubs and got going on a 9 hole course. Ed was very good and for a 1st timer I was pretty good, hitting the ball acuratly and far(ish). I even managed to get a par on one of the holes which no one else managed. It was really funny as Ed is usually very good but today hge wasnt and he got SO frustrated with himself. Hitting the floor, rolling around - very funny for me and Dean to watch.
We had some beans on toast for lunch and then did another 9 holes which I was much, much better. I got tired though and finished slightly early as I just couldnt hit the ball for the last 2 holes! When the 2 others came back Eds wallet whic was in one of the caddy bags had gone! We looked everywhere but it was geting dark and they were closing up we all agreed (much to Eds frustratins) to come back in the morning.
We had a nice evening at a few bars and got up for a miserable 2 hour search of the golf course in the pooring, freezing cold rain - it was trully terrible. We didnt find it and were about to drive off when the woman came over and found the wallet - exactly where Ed had put it in one of the side pockets of the bags!!!!!! To be fair though Ed has promised us a pub lunch when we get to Queenstown - only a few hours away!
