We drove down the west coast from Nelson. It was a long drive but very beautiful. We arived in Punakaiki to sleep after having an explore around a national park, playing much frisbee and looking at a lake. Punakaiki is a small down on the coast and has amazing rock formations called pancake rocks - the layers build up and it looks like a stack of pancakes! There are also usually blowholes here but the sea was not chopy enough so we didnt get to see that.

The Rocks were amazing and the 4 of us jumped over the barrier we shouldnt have jumped over and clambered around the rocks for a couple of hours - it was great and a wonderful morning.

Last night we camped illegally (as usual) next to the sea - there were a family of hens which were hovering around pilfering small bits of food and they ate half of my risotto! We watched Spy Game in our DVD player in the spaceship and slept.

Also, as usual we walked into a hostal we were not staying at, used their showers, filled our water tanks up and left - this is a real winning formula, it saves us loads of money and we also get to meet the people in the hostel. It is such a good plan!

Now we are going to head over to the Franz Joseph Glacier for some trecking - I cant wait!
