Trip End
May 13, 2009
We got on the bus at 7am from Puerto Natales and Sarah went on to Punta Arenas (sob sob). Im off to the end of the earth - the southern most city - Ushuaia.
It is a 12 hour trip and Sarah didnt fancy it - understandably so we will meet again within a week in Buenos Aires.
The trip down was SO long and involve yet another boarder crossing. 14 hours later, after meeting Irish, English and Canadians on the bus I was in Ushuaia - no reservation, looking around in the freezing cold gusty night for a place but luckily it was still just about light and luckily the 4th place I went to had a bed - a bit much but not crazy crazy - I really dont want to camp tonight!!!!!!!
20/2/08
Today Ive been chilling out, met nice people at the guesthouse, booked my ticket out of here up north - difficult thing to do as it is SO buy with tourists down here
I wish I could go - its expensive - $4,000 for 2 weeks but its antartica! I still cant justify it right now.
Now I have bought some tape in case the tent breaks when I try it out tomorrow night and I just have to try and sort out what I am doing now I am down here. Im just loving stopping for a day doing nothing right now!
23/2/08
I went to the National Park Tierra De Fuego (Land of Fire), It was a bit of a tourist trap and took only 20 mins to get there costing more than $20! The park its self is massive but only a tiny tiny part is open to tourists. It is more about short walks than trecks and I spent about 6 hours walking along the coast and then lots of little short walks piled together to make the time up. There was a lot of bird wildlife on display and the day was absolutly magnificent - the weather here has been very cold and very unstable but I definatly chose the right day
The rest of the time here ive been hanging out with a Czec Rep guy, a Ukranian, a Catalonian, a Buenos Airean and the guy who looked after the hostel also from BA. All these guys were cool and we watched loads of football, drank loads of mate (Argentine version of tea), also drank loads of tea and did nothing more really. It was a nice place, nice people and a nice kitchen so it actually didnt cost me too much although I was in a pretty hard to access place.
I met a French couple who came down here on the same bus as me and we are also leaving on the same one up north. Its nice to actually know someone on the bus and I have a feeling a Scottish couple which I traveled down with will also be on there.
Now, at 5.30am I have to get on a bus which could entail a 24 hour journey or more - its gona be rough.
