I got to Amman late morning, arived in some bus station god knows where and then went past all the bullshit of there is no bus to the centre, there is no shared taxi blah blah blah. I got in a shared taxi to the centre, found the hostel without too much trouble and spent day one socialising with a cool new bunch of people including a whole load of peace core whatever the hell that is! They are hear for a big party for independance day (today) and we allwent out last night, I ate loads of food, 1/2 a kilo of cherries, falafal, hummus bread and salad and had a wonderful chery shisha - I feel fat now though!
I also went with an American dude to the citidel, high up above Amman to see the sun set - it was beautiful - Amman at 1st glance is a great city - I really like it here.
P.S Th drunk Swedish guy from Petra

Well, its been another couple of days now - eventful ones and I stil love it here.
On my 2nd day here a few of my friends showed up from other places in my travels (randomly) and thn I met a load more people from 'Peace Core'. Chris and Whitney invited me out to their Independence day celebration 4th of July (independance from.... The Brithish!) It was a crazy night where I was introduced to at least 50 people, drank 2 very very expensive drinks and then a lot of whisky. It was very strange when my friend Ferdy came up to me in the pub - I thought it was just americans - 100 Amricans, 2 British - no on else
So after going to bed at 3.30am - drunk. I managd to get up at 7am to go to the dead sea - that hurt a lot!
I got up, met my Japanese friend and a couple of French dudes. We left at 7.30am, got a bus for an hour then hitch hiked to a spot on the dead which is free to swim in. We walked for 30 seconds, the Japanese dude put his hand out and a car stopped instantly! He drove us half way to the resort on the dead sea and then we got out. The Japanses dude managed it again! Put his hand out and the 1st car stopped - A guy from Saudi Arabia who I chattd with to the army check point where we got out and had an amazing float in the dead sea. Sea water is usually 3% salt - the dead sea is 33%! It stings a bit - (a lot when you get it in your eye!) Th guys left very soon though and I stayed for a little whil longer. There was a nice little stream to rince in and the views over to Israel were stunning. I hitched back alone with another Saudi guy and then hopped on the bus back to Amman in time for a shower and a sleep!

I had a good day yesterday, going up to Mt Nebo by bus from Amman which had sweeping views to Israel - you could actually see Bethlehem

Well, I had a boring morning sorting out bits and pieces, saying goodbye to people etc and then at 12 I hopped on a local bus which I found which takes you 7km away from the border. I was about to hitch but another wonderful Jordanian just stopped, turned around, picked me up and then drove me all to the border without me even asking - what amazing people they are here!

. I gave him a pillow th evening before I left when he was passed out on the floor. I went out bfore I went to sleep to check on him but he was gone, so I took his pillow in again and thought nothing of it. Today Michlle (who I met in Petra) told me he urinated off the side of the balcony and then either fell over in a drunken stupor or jumped. Now he has brain damage and is in a coma. The Swedish embasy also refuse to help as he caused problems back home. Now the guest hourse are footing the bill! Sad news.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

. Then a Canadian guy and I tried to hitch down from the summit. This proved very difficult and after an hour we decided to get a taxi down to the highway. From the highway it was easy - we got picked up straight away by a family and driven part of the way there and then again got picked up by a big family (see the pics) and driven al the way to the dead sea spot. They swam with us for a couple of hours and then drove us back to Amman, feeding us loads of food and generally being very kind - I had to battle to get out the house though just as they were ordering pizza for us! In the eve I went out with Ferdy for a Sheesha as he leaves tomorrow, and it turnes out I do as well. I am off to Israel.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
