Today we went to Kuranda, a village set in the Rainforest. We travelled on the Skyrail cable car on the way up, gliding over the rainforest canopy with stunning views. Once again I think I was quite brave to attempt this, but it was well worth it! There were 2 stops on route, one was a boardwalk through the rainforest and the second was to view Barron Falls, 260 metres tall and one of Australia's most visited World Heritage rainforest sights. In total we were travelling for 45 minutes over the rainforest – quite unbelievable how vast it is.
Kuranda was a very pretty village with lots of little shops, cafes and market stalls. We visited the wildlife enclosure and I finally got to cuddle a koala, something I had been dying to do all holiday. The little koala Otto was only 15 months old and so sweet and so cute, soft and cuddly, I didn’t want to give him back
We then took the scenic railway back which meandered down the mountain passing through 15 tunnels and taking over an hour to get back.
It was a lovely day, the highlight for me definitely being cuddling Otto, but for Stuart, the cable car and stunning views!
In the evening we went to a beautiful little restaurant overlooking the river called Soul 'n Pepper which a lady from the wineries in Margaret River had recommended. We had sizzling prawns and it was one of the best meals we have had in Oz and dare I say probably the healthiest as there was lots of veg, which made a great change! However it was incredibly hot and Stuart was covered in bites afterwards – I think one must have got under his t-shirt – poor thing!
