At 3pm we then started our next tour of Kata Tjuta or The Olgas as they are also known. We managed the first walk to the viewing platform but then gave up for the second half as it was a much harder walk and went to the Gorge instead. Afterwards we had more wine and nibbles to watch the sun set over Kata Tjuta.
We then headed out of the resort into the middle of nowhere and total blackness, when all of a sudden we saw a few lights and there all set for dinner on trestle tables with lanterns, was a bbq of chicken, emu sausages(!) and kangaroo kebabs, salads and wine! It was a very strange feeling to find this little oasis just for us in the middle of nowhere, and I must admit, even the kangaroo kebabs were quite delicious! Our guide then turned off the lanterns and pointed out various stars, including Mars which looked so much brighter in the middle of the desert. We had a wonderful day, although we were absolutely exhausted by the time we got back to the hotel – well worth it though for such a great experience (apart from those damn flies of course)!
