We left our guesthouse, Akwa, at 6 in the morning to catch our flight from Samui to Phuket. We arrived with plenty of spare time and surprisingly Koh Samui airport was lovely. Small but beautifully done with lots of flowers and plants everywhere. When it was time to board we got driven to the plane and that's when we saw what we were flying in... The smallest plane I (Cynth) had ever been on and seeing I'm not the biggest fan of flying this didn't give me much confidence! Luckily the flight went quick and 30 min later we arrived (in one piece!) at Phuket Airport, yeay!

After an hour taxi ride we arrived at In on the Beach which is owned by Stu's auntie and uncle's friends Ken and Boi. Ken and Boi arrived to meet us a bit after we got there and they took us out for lunch at Mama Noi's, one of their favorite places for lunch, and it was fab! Boi ordered lots of dishes for us all to try and all better than the next!

After lunch they dropped us off at Patong beach to do some shopping. First we walked through Bangla road with loads of fake designer handbags, dvd's and clothing and after walking down we went to the Jungceylon shopping mall where most stuff was real so a bit more pricey as well. Sally bought some more presents and dresses and I bought some goggles and snorkel. After leaving the shopping centre we walked down a few more streets and Stu booked 3 dives for the next day. After getting a tuktuk back Stu called it a night to get some sleep before his dives and Sal and I went into Karon town to get a small bite to eat. We both ordered a prawn cocktail and shared a deep fried ice-cream for dessert. Yummy and so bad :)

Stu: I had found a dive company called Thailand Divers, they looked very professional even thought it was expensive as far as diving in Thailand goes, how can I pass up the opportunity to go to a place called Shark point, I had never seen a shark and still haven't!!

The trip involved 3 dives around the Phi Phi Islands - this was a bonus as I got to tick this off my list of places I have visited this time around. The 1st dive was good and straight away I noticed how much more colour there was in the coral this side of Thailand than on the Koh Tao side, there were loads of Box fish, Giant Puffer fish and about 1.5 ft long, those things would be huge if they puffed up!!!! And loads and loads of Nemo Fish that were pretty cool. Saw some moray eels, Lion fish, which I had always wanted to see, 2 turtles we think they were of the soft shell variety and a sea snake to name a few. The sea snake was so elegant swimming in the water it was a banded Sea Kreight from what I understand. We then moved off and moored up in the bay The Beach was filmed to have brunch and rest before the second dive.

The second dive was good too, better than the first for visibility, saw a large Grouper fish, another Turtle and a baby Manta Ray.

The 3rd dive was the one I had been waiting for, Shark point, guaranteed to see at least one shark - I didn’t!!!!! I think I have a Jinx, 2/3 times I have been to places called shark point and I am yet to see a shark, let’s hope my great white dive in Oz will be the time I see sharks!!!!! Even thought there were no sharks, the amount of colorful coral, small fishes, and Puffer fish around here was awesome.

I would recommend anyone to go diving with Thailand Divers and definitely go diving in Phuket over Koh Tao, the marine’s life is more, the coral has not been damaged as much and there is hardly any bleaching of the coral unlike over in Koh Tao.

That day for Sal and I was spent by getting up, breakfast in bed, laying by the pool, swimming in the pool and sunbathing a bit more! Sally's last night had arrived and we went for dinner with Ken and Boi who took us to Phuket town to a brilliant restaurant called Nutural. Again Boi ordered the food and we couldn't have been happier. Great food, beers and great company turned out to be a great last night with Sal.
Next day we had a last dip in the pool, got dressed and decided to get a quick last lunch together before getting the taxi to the airport for Sal and the Vijitt Resort for me and Stu.

About 2 min down the road from the hotel there are a handful of places to eat and the one we picked was busy so we assumed it was good. What turned out was that everyone else had just arrived and it took us ages to get our food so instead of having and hour and a bit for lunch we had to scoff it down in 5 minutes which was a shame as the food was actually really tasty!

Time had come to say goodbye and after a quick taxi ride to the Vijitt we had to say goodbye to Sally but at least I knew this time it wouldn't be another 5 years before seeing her again as we would see her again in December!

We checked in at the lobby at the Vijitt and after the welcome drink she explained that we had gotten an upgrade to a pool villa and got 30% off food and drinks (woohoo, working for a travel company def had its perks!) After the check in they drove us to our villa and gave us the key. The villa was beautifull! It had a massive bed, private pool and patio, big his and hers sinks and a massive bath and outside rainforest shower!

First thing off course was to jump in the pool naked (well whenever do you get to do that again!)
After our dip we got dressed and went for happy hour to the beach bar and dinner afterwards. The food was delicious but the service was terrible. It was low season so it wasn't that busy but they just didn't have enough staff to handle the orders which was a shame.

Next day we spend pretty much the whole day at our pool and went for dinner again in the evening. After about 15 min all the lights went down and it was pitch black. A few seconds later their generator picked up and most lights went back on. Food again was great and service again was poor. When we left they apologised and explained that someone had drunk driven into an electricity pole and thats what knocked out the lights and none of the villas had power either.. Which meant no aircon :( we sat outside in the dark with our feet in the pool and tried to make the most of it but mosquitos were having a party on us so went back inside and luckily 30 minutes later we had power again!

Next day we checked out at 4 after having another pool day in the sun and had a taxi drop us back at In on the beach where we stayed for 2 nights before heading to Patong for a few days.

Boi and Ken dropped us off at The Bird Cage which was our place for 3 nights while staying in Patong (Phuket)

After checking in we had a wander around and went back to the shopping centre. Seeing I wasn't feeling to well last time and we didn't shop that much we thought we'd go back. After a Subway meal for lunch (yes not very cultured, I know) we went to the cinema and saw In time with Justin Timberlake which was pretty good. After the movie we just wandered about for a bit and not being that hungry we got a baguette, pate and cheese from the supermarket and went back to the hotel. After switching on the aircon the room just didn't get any cooler so Stu had a word and first they showed us different rooms and after deciding we'd try it out for a night and move if it was too unbearable the next day. Then the (about 15 year old) daughter of the manager came up and changed the setting of the aircon, we couldn't feel it immediately but 5 min later, result! The result was so good we were actually getting to cold and afraid to touch the remote in case we'd screw it up again so had a pretty cold night and in the morning turned it up and it was fine.

Following day was a lazy day, not that we are extremely active on other days! In the evening Ken and Boi picked us up and took us to a restaurant overlooking Patong beach which again did very good food. (The Thais do know how to cook Thai food! ;)

On our last day in Phuket after getting up we went for some food and left for the internet cafe to finally update the blog!

That evening we have one more dinner with Ken and Boi and were looking forward seeing where they take us this time! They have been so lovely and generous, it truely has been a pleasure getting to know them.

The next day we left for Singapore where we have 3 nights before flying to Indonesia. After having a look around online and hearing from friends it sounds pretty expensive but we are very excited anyway!

Two weeks left until leaving Asia and time has flown by but so far we are having a blast.
