Finally we managed to pull ourselves away from the attraction of Rio and make our first move down south. First stop Ilha Grande a small island off the coast of Brazil south of Rio.
The island was very Caribbean like with its stunning beaches and minimal facilities (a renound detox zone from the Rio Carnivals). Our two day stay here was very enjoyable and the first day was slightly over cast and really perfect for a long hike through the jungle to see the sights including ruins of an old prison, an aquaduct, a natural pool and a beautiful waterfall.
The next day we were again blessed with clear blue skies and a beaming sun. What more of an excuse do you need to hit Lopez Mendes - a stunning beach and possibly the islands biggest attraction!
We are currently residing in a town back on the mainland, slightly further South called Paratay. It is an old Colonial town and Owen reckons an ideal holiday location for Sue and Hugh. We spent the day wandering the streets and exploring the various local shops. Tomorrow we head to Sao Paolo and after one night there to Iguassu Falls and then Uruguay.
Brazil is an amazing country although I think we are both ready to get another stamp in the passport and take the next step in our adventure!!
We are glad to hear everyone is doing well back home and I promise pictures will be up within the next week (taken over 200 already!!).
Take care everyone. Love Stu and Owen xx
