The Hendrick Motor Sports center is only about 2 miles from the RV park [its a good thing because I got there and discovered I forgot my camera -- problem solved with a quick round trip - turning left all the way.] I started with the #24/#5 racing garage and later went to the #48/#88 racing garage. Each garage has race cars in the lobby, winning trophy's, memorabilia, and a viewing area for the garages. These garages are where they build and test the race cars prior to loading them on 85' transporters to take them to the race.
Hendrick also has a combination museum and gift shop where past cars are exhibited and the mechanical and safety aspects of racing are explained
Next I drove about 30 miles to Mooresville, NC to the Penske Racing Garages. I have three words to explaining the Penske shop: Wow, WOW and W O W. The garage is a free standing building about two football fields in length. There is a fan walkway elevated to what would be the second floor around the garage wall. The haulers are on the left [parked in doors] followed by multiple work stations for the #2 and #22 sprint cup cars, followed by more work stations for the #12/#22/#39 nationwide series cars [all floors are tiled trough out the entire garage and spotless]. Around the outside walls are race winning wall posters and large pictures [10 feet tall] of the Penski Nascar drivers, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Sam Hornish, Jr.
Of course Penske has viewing from the first floor gift shop. One thing that I noted was that since Penske changed from Dodge to Ford engines - most of the merchandise mentioning dodge was gone. I found a couple of things to purchase that had Dodge on them -- you can never tell when Dodge will win another championship as Keselowski in 2012.
Also in a moment of weakness - Linda pointed out at dinner last night that there was a Bass Pro Shop- super center just a couple of blocks away. We are going after dinner tonight. I get to go - and can hold my own credit card.
