I was sad to leave Oz, but at the same time excited to go to New Zealand, I loved it so much last year.  From the airport I called home and while it was great to speak with everyone, it didn't make me want to run home or anything.  I miss my family but I'm not ready to go home yet!! I should have been more careful with my money.  Can't change things now, but I'll be back out travelling soon enough so I'll just think about that.  On to NZ...
Flew into Christchurch and stayed there for 3 days. It's the most English city outside of England they say, and it's obvious by the random old architecture thrown in with the new.  I stayed at Base backpackers in Cathedral square.  I really didn't do too much in this city. I took around around the city center on a trolly.  Took a bus to a shopping center to buy some new clothes, I thought It would be freezing , turns out I was wrong about that..   Also took a gondola ride up to see some great views of the city.  I supose the most interesting thing I did here was the Antartica center, it's the main base that the US and other governments use when embarking on trips to Antartica Christchurch Cathedral
Christchurch Cathedral
.  It's basically like a museum with pictures, videos, information and displays about the continent. The coolest part is a room that is like a simulated Antartica,  they dress you up in warm coats and you go into this dim room with snow, it's about 17 degrees and then the winds start up and go to 28mph.  That's pretty cold for this California girl.  They also have a few pengins called little blue penguins. Cute things.  One night I made an effor to be social, I'd been keeping to myself for too many days.  So I went down to the bar and made it through 1 whole drink I think.  A couple people talked to me, one being a driver for the Stray bus ( same type of company as the Kiwi Experience)  so I talked to him about Stray, and it gave me something to think about, which company to go with, I went with Kiwi Experience last year and had the time of my life!  I spoke with the travel desk in the morning and the passes I were considering where pretty much exactly the same for the same price, it was a toss up.. so I chose Kiwi... let the adventure begin!!
