Kate and I agree that Bangkok is by far the worst place we have ever been!!! We stayed on the Kao San Road, the main backpacker area, and it was sooo dirty and disgusting!! Everywhere we went was the same, it was just gross. The people were not as friendly, and somewhere downright rude.  Once you step foot out of your hotel, its constant harrassment from tuk tuk and taxi drivers, and I mean constant, they are absolutely relentless. You want tuk tuk? You want taxi? Where you go? Where you come from? How long you in Bangkok? Where you been? All the same BS questions over and over, its enough to make anybody with the patience of god get furious and want to punch one of these guys in the face!!!
And they all lie, lie lie lie. It's all a big scam to rip you off.  They act like a helpful person at first, getting out the map, marking places on it for you, then saying, oh this place is closed to today, or it opens at this time, let me show you this place, or tour of the city for 10 baht (thats like 30 cents.)  and the scam is that instead of taking you to where you requested, they take you to a tailor shop or a gem store. This is what happend to us, the guy stopped in front of a tailor and said to get out and have a look, we said we don't want to look we aren't interested in getting clothes made, he said just go look for 5 minutes you don't have to buy, the catch is that this guy brings tourist over, the owner gives him a commision or a coupon for gas and if the customers don't go in, he doesn't get his cut.  We argued for a good 5 minutes and finally we said forget it we are getting out here and we'll walk, he said you vey vey bad, f*** yoo.  Shocking!!  We were so pissed off we felt like getting out of Bankok that very second!! So that was our attempt to do some site seeing of the city. We didn't see crap.
We were mad and so hot and sweaty, we just got a ride to a mall. It was a great one, high class, even opend the door for us as we rocked up looking like trash.  It was a relief just to be in the air conditioning.
The next day we did a day tour. It pretty much sucked as well. The price didn't include any of the activities, which was not mentioned to us of course.  We visited the floating markets, which is all the same souvineers stands, but you ride through canals on a long boat in a filthy river.  And your harrassed the whole time here as well,  you buy something from me?? Oh the water was sick, there was a belly up minotaur floating in it. And then a huge live one crawled out!!
Lunch was like prison food, we all felt like we were being punished by eating the slop of rice and soggy vegitables.  We all couldn't wait till the next stop so we could buy some snacks!  We hung out with some funny Irish guys and we all had a laugh making fun of everything.
We went to see the bridge over the river Kwai. During WWII the Japanese forced prisoners of war to build the bridge, there is a plaque dedicated to the 700 American soldiers who died here, and also a cemetary of the 13,000 Australian soldiers that died, but we didn't get a chance to see that, and Kate was very dissapointed because she'd learned so much about it.  I think it was close to 30, 000 British and Dutch that also died.  I don't remember learning anything about this in school or any of the zillion documentaries I've watched.
Last stop was another temple and giant Budda, we are all templed out now.
It was Halloween night so we had to go out!  As my sister said, I dressed up as a drunk American always looking for a good time. I think that's what she called me!! haha that's no costume huh!   Anyway, not too many people in costume, but an insane amount of people out. Koa San was packed like sardines and walking through there made me really nervous, if there was an emergency of some sort, we'd all be dead!! We made it out and got to the first restuarant we could find, a pizza place. Then made are way around to the other end of the street and went to Gullivers Travellers bar. We stayed there all night till the place closed, hanging out with a cool Canadian guy and a couple of Irish guys. It was a fun night and once again i'm proud to tell you that I didn't puke or lose my camera, yay!  Did lose another earing though!
