So, after an overnight bus journey (with fully reclining seats and dinner and breakfast included) it was onto Salta in Northwest Argentina, near the Chile and Bolivia borders.

Salta is a lovely city set in a valley surrounded by Andean mountains. I ended up spending a week here, seeing various rock formations & a salt lake, going on a wine tour, and taking in the beautiful views in the surrounding valleys.

In Salta itself, I spent the evenings drinking muchos Argentinian vino and eating yet more steaks, as well as a few empanadas! It was lovely and sunny after drizzly Buenos Aires and there were loads of other gringos and holidaying argentenians to hang out with, including 4 crazy girls from Perth (my final destination). I also watched traditional Andean dancing in a restaurant one night and went horse riding with a gaucho. Also tried mate tea (very nice) and coca leaves (a bit bitter) for the first time.

The Encounter group I'd left in Iguacu Falls (Brasil) were due at the nearby rafting camp on the 30th, so I arranged to go rafting and meet up with them. It was great to see them all, and the rafting was wicked fun - we flipped the boat a couple of times (once when we weren't supposed to!) and there were loads of other rafters on the water so lots of competitive banter and splashing went on!

The following day I made the decision to join the group for the last 10 days of their trip, as they were going to La Paz via all the places I'd planned to visit. So, back onto the truck again - this time with Rich & Nessie rather than Pete & Rita.

We then spent a couple more days chilling and partying in Salta: The 1st August was Swiss National Day, so Bianca dressed up in the Swiss flag and did a little speech with 10 joke commandments, before distributing Toblerones to everyone!

And so onto Chile...
