And now for a more traditional Sao Joao Fiesta

The first dancing group we saw were so energetic that two of the girls performing fainted! Another group danced with burning torches, another group all had big hats in the form of blue churches (something to do with Sao Joao), but my favourite group was the one where the boys dressed as girls and vice versa (ok, so this fiesta wasnīt totally traditional either!). The eventual winners had a wild west theme to their outfits and incorporated gunfire into their routine. Considering the size of the town, I reckon most of the population mustīve been taking part in the dance competition.
We spent two nights partying at Olivencia - we didnīt really have much choice, as our campsite was right next to the fiesta so we couldnīt sleep even if we wanted to! Then we continued to head south down the coast.
