Last night we arranged for a taxi to pick us up in the morning to take us to the Moyogalpa ferry dock. We arrived in between ferry sailings and took one of the small boats instead. A few people I'd met on Ometepe said the smaller boats can really get you seasick but luckily I didn't have that problem.

After another taxi transfer on the San Jorge side to the Rivas bus station, we were hustled onto a Blue Bird bus just leaving for Granada. Another 90 minute bus ride and we were there. We hadn't made reservations (since I was told it's not really necessary). We arrived to find it was the middle of a week-long International Poetry Festival and most hotels were full. Walking with our backpacks in the midday sun, after the third strikeout from my list of hotels, we stopped in to the next hotel we reached and found they had a vacancy. They were located right on the main pedestrian street just 1 1/2 blocks from the Parque Central!  The rates were higher all over town because of the festival.

When I handed over my passport to register for the room the manager behind the counter saw my address and started laughing. It turns out that his family escaped from the war in Nicaragua when he was a young boy. They were given asylum in the United States (with a few years spent in a relocation camp) and joined his uncle in Bellevue, WA, where he grew up. (Bellevue is very close to where I live). He's now living in Granada to 'discover his roots' but says his Spanish still seems to identify him more as an American.
