Still... Olympos
Entry 31 of 44 | show all | print this entry |
Still here in Olympos... relaxing... it's so nice to not have to get up and pack and get on a bus.
A couple of days ago I went for a couple hour's walk over to Chimera, a verrry cool place. But there was almost disaster when I tried to make a video. Have a look...

Yesterday I tried to find a hidden city. I thought it was up a canyon, so started hiking up there... along the walls were several sections of bolted climbing routes and even one place where I had to use a installed rope to haul myself up as steep waterfall. Eventually I hit a waterfall that was just too vertical and there was no rope to be found. I started bushwhacking up the canyon sides, but couldn't find any trail and things got very unfun very quickly. Gave up and went back to have some Turkish Ravioli and then saw a local Aussy guy who works at a guesthouse across from mine, so asked him what was up with the hidden city... he let me know that I was in the wrong canyon... should have been one valley over... oops.
Today is a little overcast and it rained during the night, so I'm just hanging out taking a day off. I don't recall ever just doing nothing all day during this trip yet.
Anyhow, will leave tomorrow or the next day depending on how I feel about the weather. It's cheap here and there's nice places to sit and read while drinking incredibly strong, but free turkish tea, so it's not a bad place to wait out the rain if it continues.
There still not many western tourists even here in the backpacker capital of Turkey. I must say, it's a little bit frustrating... getting a tiny bit bored of being without companions. Zapping my energy for doing too much more sightseeing. Anyhow, I'm going to stick it out for a few more weeks to finish the coast and a couple more places. I may skip out on Trabzon, which was my big mountain destination. I think it'll just be way to cold, I'll be the only one there, and I'm really not sure that my boots will hold out. They're splitting, tearing, ripping, and generally disintegrating.
