Tartus: The view, oh, the view!

Hamdu Lilah!!!
I know why there's no women to be found in Syria (and in the Middle East for that matter)!
They are ALL in the sea-side town of Tartus. It's amazing. Beautiful women on the street, to my left, to my right, groups of two, groups of three and all dressed very well.
I almost tripped and feel three times aready. But give me a break: I've hardly seen a woman in a month and a half.
Anyhow, I emailed Claude immediately! (He went to Aleppo)
People are really so nice here... I went to a tailor because my zipper in my pants has been broken since Jordan... not such a great thing to be airing out your undies in a conservative muslim country... anyhow, the guy fixed it for free while I waited! Then I brought my other pair of pants, which were developing the same problem, plus the hem was coming undone at the bottom - and he fixed all that for free! Wow! I should take them some sweets.
Had the BEST Schwarma today while watching the ladies, then took a boat out to the Arwad Island. It's funny, this town gets a bad rap from the guidebook because they say it's so filled with trash and unfinished buildings... I must admit, there is some trash, and I hate trash, especially in places of natural beauty... but I must say, it's not that bad and the island is interesting - streets hardly wide enough for two people to pass each other.
Plus, it's near the mountains as well... I can look down the coastline to some snow-capped mountains in the distance...
Anyhow, I'll think I'll stay one more day even though there's pretty much nothing to do here but eat good food and "people" watch ;-)
