Apamea
Entry 23 of 44 | show all | print this entry |
Took a day trip out to Apamea, another set of ruins... was not too exciting, but the surrounding countryside was magnificent. It's up high on a hill so I could look down upon bright, green, grassy fields below for kilometers. Got rained on, then hailed on but hamdu lilah! (thank god!) for quick dry clothing! The wind was so strong I was blew dry in minutes!
Anyhow, I have been running into this French guy from east Canada on and off, but he's on a bit of a downer the past few days since I bumped into him in Hama (first met him waaaay back in Petra). Anyhow, he's sick of all the men everywhere... there are no women. They are all stuck at home, hidden away. In the bus there are men, on the street there are men, in the restaurant there are men... men, men everywhere. It's like a planet of men out here.
Anyhow, he says he likes women and misses them. I understand what he feels. Anyhow, it's really pulling him down and affecting him in every way - even sight-seeing is becoming uninteresting. Anyhow, I've got to get away from the guy because his attitude is like poison... I mean he's a nice guy... really generous. But he's going through a tough time and I don't want to get myself thinking too much! I think he's planning to head a different direction now anyhow...
