Hama
Entry 22 of 44 | show all | print this entry |
Well, I arrived in Hama on a little bit of a low note after having been so disappointed with Palmyra. I had some pretty high expectations of Hama... photos of the norias (water wheels) had left me picturing a quiet little town... however the river is full of trash, is stinnnnnnnnnky, and there bags caught in some of the spokes of the wheels.... more dissappointment...
I did have the BEST piece of cheesecake in my life, I think... coffee flavored and I'm sure, pure fat... wow, it was a dream.
Yesterday, I got up and took a trip out to the Dead Cities... wow, sounds like a setup for another big downer of a place, I know... but, wow, it was really quite unique... an eerie place of life vanished, and life anew... I snapped many, many photos. This place was far more interesting than Palmyra. Not sure why it's not "talked about" more...
Here are some I found to give you an idea... when going to this page, also check out the link to Serjilla

Finished off the day with a good meal of Sheesh Tawouk (grilled chicken kabob). I've been eating soooo many sweets I figured, no, I won't have desert tonight. I walked right by the sweet shop while running to get some stuff at the store next door. But on the way back I thought I'd just have a look. Saw a piece of Tiramasu.... only 30SYP (60 cents)... come on, you can't pass THAT up.... ooooohhhh... it was sooooo good.
Today, I took another day trip out to the Crac Des Chevaliers, a castle perched high atop a hill...
