Where I stayed
Haad Gruard Resort
It’s a terrible thing when you are in a little slice of paradise and still wanting more
. Who would have thought that instead of working on my tan snorkeling I would see 2 series of "30 Rock" on Matt’s computer. Love that show!TIDBITS
Our taxi ride to the ferry to leave Koh Pha Nang was one of the highlights, despite the fact that we resembled a clown car with the number of people and backpacks that were on board. Some great scenery and good company – shame we hadn’t all got to know each other at the resort.WORD TO THE WISE
Be prepared for really aggressive touts at the ferry, bustling for your accommodation business.
Order your Margherita before
the waiter smokes his joint.
Taxis will wipe your budget if you want to get around the island without a scooter.
Now I know that many people have raved about Koh Pha Nang and will strongly disagree when I say that the place was lacking in charm. (We should have listened to you Shane and headed to Koh Lanta). Maybe our mistake was organizing our accommodation while captive on the bus transferring us from the trai to the ferry, but we were taken in by the pictures of sandy beaches and bungalows overhanging the rocks at Haad Gruad and, to be fair, it was a beautiful spot although I had the cuts from the coral beach to prove it was no longer sandy. Also huge tidal changes left us without water in our beautiful bay for much of the day. It was more a case of feeling isolated from everything (which sounds like a good thing I know) and the lack of competition for customers made the staff lazy about service (could be they were just too stoned though). Matt's turn for the squirts this time – not a pleasant thought.
